Smart is a German vehicle manufacturing company and its foundation was put in 1994. The CEO of Swatch Nicolas Hayek started a project of developing a vehicle naming Swatchmobile which was a two-seated car with a hybrid engine. Since the company was new and there were many competitors in the vehicle industry, Hayek thought to collaborate with a competing car manufacturing company.
Initially, Hayek decided to do a joint venture with Volkswagen but in 1993, the CEO of Volkswagen wanted to discontinue with the deal as they wanted to come up with their own hybrid model. Hayek then made a deal with Mercedes Benz and the deal was announced on 1994.
Smart’s cars are small in size but they have the world’s best safety mode; it is called Tridion Safety Cell. This model provides extra safety and protection to the passengers in case of collision.
The first Smart logo was designed by Hartmut Esslinger.
The latest Smart logo was designed by Gerard Steinle.
The slogan of Smart is “Reduce to the Max”.
