Rambler was first a bicycle manufacturing company formed in 1897 founded by Thomas B. Jeffery. He used the name Rambler to launch a prototype automobile. After getting positive reviews from the first National Automobile Show in New York City and Chicago International Exhibition and Tournament, Thomas started the automobile business.
Thomas’ partner R. Phillip Gormully died in 1900, the founder sold the bicycle division and acquired the Sterling Bicycle Co and set up a shop in Kenosha. Thomas and his son Charles were considered innovators of automobiles as they introduced spare wheel tire assembly, left-hand driving, steering, and placement of engine in the hood instead of the trunk and under the seat. By 1902, the company manufactured 1500 cars and were priced at $750.
Rambler was considered the biggest automobile company after Oldsmobile. The company was acquired by Charles W. Nash and it also acquired Hudson Motor Car Company. This merger then resulted in American Motor Corporation.
The slogan of Rambler was “Quality Built-in”.
The Nash Rambler car was designed by Meade Moore.
Rambler Classic was manufactured by AMC (American Motor Corporation).
The Rambler car had the first generation engine featuring 327cu in 5.4L V8.
