Pontiac was previously known as Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors. It was launched and owned by General Motors in 1926 and was headquartered in Michigan, USA. The company’s aim was to provide a car for the public that had high-performance and was affordable at the same time.
The company’s history starts with Oakland Motor Car Company which was founded in Pontiac in 1907 by Edward Murphy. The company used to manufacture horse-drawn carriages. In the following year, William C. Durant launched General Motors in Michigan as a holding company.
Oakland Motor Car Company became a part of General Motors in 1909 and Pontiac was launched as a junior brand of Oakland.
The first Pontiac car was manufactured by General Motors.
The Pontiac’s Firebird logo was designed by Norm Inouye and Bill Porter.
Pontiac GTO was designed by Russ Gee, Bill Collins, and John DeLorean.
