Packard was also known as Packard Motor Car Company. It was founded in 1899 by George Lewis Weiss William Doud Packard, and James Ward Packard. The company was closed in 1962. The company’s headquarters was in Michigan, USA. In that era, owning a Packard vehicle was considered prestigious; some of the Packard vehicles can be seen in famous automobile collections and even museums. In the first year, the company manufactured 400 vehicles.
Henry Bourne Joy was the first person to buy a Packard as he was one from the wealthiest families in Detroit. He then introduced the company to investors naming Russell A. Alger and Truman Handy Newberry. The starting price of a Packard was $2600. After the war, the company couldn’t manufacture many units and in 1953, General Motors cut down the prices of their vehicles to a huge extend.
This effected companies like Studebaker, Packard, Hudson, and Nash. This is when the Studebaker and Packard merged the businesses. In 1962, Studebaker retired the Packard marque.
Packard cars were mainly designed by James Ward Packard.
The most expensive Packard car was auctioned at $4180000.
Packard made 400 cars.
The oldest Packard car was Model A 1899.
