Mercury was an automobiles brand of Ford Motor Company which was founded in 1938 by Edsel Ford. It was headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan, USA. The company was defunct in 2011 due to short of sales. The founder was the son of Henry Ford. The company used to manufacture mid-priced vehicles.
The company gave a good competition to Chrysler, Oldmobile’s divisions, and Buick. Mercury was launched to increase Ford’s footprints in the vehicle industry. Edsel Ford started working on Mercury brand from 1937 and after a year, he was able to launch the company as a Ford’s division. The first Mercury vehicle was called Mercury Eight and was displayed at the New York Auto Show.
After a year of the launch, the company was able to sell more than 65000 vehicles this was because, these cars were priced at $916 at that time.
Ford Motor Company owns Mercury.
The Mercury 1949 model was designed by Bob Gregorie.
The last car launched by Mercury was Grand Marquis.
