Mazda is a Japanese multinational automotive company. It was established in January 30, 1920, as Toyo Cork Kogyo Co. At the start, the company limited its operations to cork manufacturing. Later, Cork Kogyo started to make products for the construction of houses and machine tools. In 1931, the company created the Mazda-Go and entered into the automotive industry.

The Mazda logo conveys the meaning of the company’s core values. The stylized “M” with wings represents improvement and growth. The V-shape which forms wings and M shows innovation, spirit, energy, compassion, and determination. Overall, the logo represents its commitment to overcoming any problems and develop cutting-edge technology to produce quality vehicles.

Current logo is a modification of the 2015 version. The change is only in the wordmark. Instead of a blue outline, it now has a black outline. White shading and a black hue give wordmark 3D effect that matches the badge.

Again, company made minor changes to look logo more good. The designer reduced the black hue in the badge, and changed the wordmark color to grey that matches the badge. A blue outline was added to the wordmark, similar like older logos and shows the company’s purpose to success and innovation.

This logo is similar to version we see today. Designer replaced diamond within oval with a stylized letter “V”. The edges of this “V” resemble wings, and in combination with the oval, form the letter “M”, representing the company’s name. The logo has a silver color with black and white shading, creating a 3D effect. The “V” wings give a sense of flight, and shows company ambition to expand into new markets and achieve even greater success.

The company gave the logo a softer touch, refining the previously geometric shapes of the icon into smoother curves. This change provided a more neat and clean look.

In this logo, company used the wordmark of 1975, but added a monogram to the design. This monogram consists of a blue diamond shape which is enclosed within a blue oval. The diamond means sunlight. This logo is base of current logo of company. A year later, company refined logo and replaced geometric edges with smoother curves.

In 1975, the company changed its logo once again. This time, the design was a customized wordmark “Mazda” in lowercase, bold letters. All the letters touched each other, and the inner edges of the “z” were uniquely cut with white space to give style to logo.

Another major change occurred in 1959 when company started to manufacture passenger cars. The new logo has a white circle with a thin red frame. Inside the circle, a lowercase letter “m” was designed with extended upper and lower corners that touched the circle’s outline. This unique design immediately captures attention. Below the circle, the wordmark “Mazda” was displayed in the same style as the 1954 version, but in a dark blue color.

1934

1934 Mazda Logo PNG Vector

In this logo, the company removed the Mitsubishi-like emblem, leaving only the wordmark. The word “Mazda” was written in a Japanese writing style. It has sharp edges with short serifs. Now the whole wordmark had blue color.

As the company began manufacturing automobiles, it changed its logo. The new logo had the company name “Mazda” written transparently with a blue outline. This wordmark was placed on a triangle-like shape, similar to the Mitsubishi emblem. Three blue rhombuses are arranged in such a way that white space looks like a start. The arrangement of blue rhombuses and white space also resembled a triangle.

The new minimalist logo was a red circle. A red line horizontally divided the circle. The line was interrupted by a central white space. This space as a whole looked like a bolt or machine part.

The first Mazda logo, introduced in 1920, featured an image of cutters and other machine parts. This represented the company’s original focus on manufacturing machine tools. It was a black logo on a white background.

Mazda officially adopted Mazda Motor Corporation as its name in 1984. However, it is worth to mention that the company has already using Mazda name for its cars since 1931. 

Overview

Mazda unique technologies set it apart from other car brands. They use specific terms like zoom-zoom philosophy for cars that are responsive as per needs. For design they use term Kodo, which means their cars are sleek and unique in style. Their cars are designed in such a way that it looks like a moving car even when the car is not moving.

Mazda uses TSKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY to improve fuel efficiency and performance. Their engines, transmissions, chassis, and body structures are built with SKYACTIV® principles. 

Company has many successful cars such as Mazda MX-5 Miata, Mazda RX Series, Mazda3 and Mazda6 and CX Series Crossovers. Company has started making electric cars. They already electric crossover car called the MX-30, and they’re working on even more electric models.

Mazda’s name is taken from Ahura Mazda, the Zoroastrian god of harmony, intelligence, and wisdom. The name reflects Mazda’s wish to build unique design cars without compromising quality.
