Three brothers from Italy, Alfieri Maserati, Ettore and Ernesto Maserati joined hands to launch their car engineering workshop “Officine Alfieri Maserati” at number 1A via de’ Pepoli. Initially, this workshop modified the cars built by other manufacturers. Later, this workshop transformed into a company designing, manufacturing and selling its cars.
This transformation was done in 1926. The very first that this company built was Tipo 26, a sports car that debuted at the Targa Florio in 1926 and won the first position in the class up to 1.5L. This was the first victor of a long series of victories. This series of victories include two consecutive editions of the Indianapolis 500 (1039, 1940), four consecutive victories in the Targa Florida (1937, 1938, 1939, 1940, nine F1 wins and the F1 World Championship 1957 with Juan Manuel Fangio.
Later in 1930, Maserati was acquired by Medona-based entrepreneur Adolfo Orsi and Maserati moved to Medona, Viale Ciro Menotti 322.
