Toyota launched Project F1 in 1983 to compete with luxury brands Acura and Infiniti. Acura and Infiniti were luxury brands of Honda and Nissan respectively.
The F1 project was completed in 1989 with the launch of Lexus LS 400. Lexus LS 400 got good reviews from customers which helped to gain reputation.

In the beginning, Lexus was called Alexis. But it soon changed from Alexis to Lexus meaning Luxury and technology-focused.
Lexus manufactures a variety of vehicles including sedans, SUVs, and hybrid vehicles. Lexus’ hybrid models such as the RX Hybrid and ES Hybrid are very popular.
Famous models of Lexus are Lexus RX 400h/RX 450h, Lexus CT 200h, Lexus ES, Lexus LS and Lexus RX.
Many theories say that Lexus is a combination of words luxury and elegance, and is an acronym of “luxury exports to the United States”. But according to Team one, a team involved in the naming process and marketing of Lexus, it simply means luxury and technology.
