General Motors Company is a multinational automotive manufacturing company based in America. The company was founded in 1908 by William C. Durant. The company’s headquarters is in Detroit, Michigan, USA. The company excels at manufacturing automobiles, its parts, military vehicles, commercial vehicles, luxury vehicles, and performance vehicles.
William C. Durant was the owner of Durant-Dort Carriage and it was the largest horse-drawn vehicle manufacturer in 1900. William founded the General Motors Company in 1908 and launched it as a holding company. After the launch, he acquired Buick Motor Company which was already sold to him in 1904 by James H. Whiting. In 1908, the founder acquired Olds Motor Works.
By the year 1909, General Motors several other vehicle manufacturing companies which included GMC, Reliance Motor Company of Detroit, Rapid Motor Vehicle Company, Pontiac, Cartercar, Welch, Elmore, and Cadillac.
