Edsel was founded in 1956 by Ford Motor Company and was defunct in 1959. This is the only company which was known for its historical commercial failure. Ford owned Lincolin and it wanted to compete with Cadillac but it was competing with DeSoto, Buick, and Oldsmobile. To address this issue, the company launched Edsel, though it failed but it did well to Lincolin.
As Lincolin market grew up and it was even preferred over Cadillac. Edsel was first named as E-Car which means Experimental Car but since E also stood for Edsel and it was Henry Ford II’s name so the company was named as Edsel. The company did an extensive amount of marketing; they launched their car on E-Day and also promoted a dedicated show “The Edsel Show”. Even after such advertisements, people spoke of this car as old-style build and unconventional design.
