Duesenberg Automobile & Motors Company Inc. was a luxury and racing automobile company by August and Fred Duesenberg in 1920 and was closed in 1937. The company was famous for its four-wheel hydraulic brakes and straight-8 engine. The Duesenberg cars won many racing competitions like Indianapolis 500 in 1922, 1924, 1925, and 1927, and also won the 1921 French Grand Prix race.
The company was bought in 1926 by Errett Lobban Cord. In 1900s the brothers used to design engines and Fred was involved in the bicycle racing. The brothers first designed the vehicle in 1905 and launched a company named Mason Motor Car Company. This company was funded by lawyer Edward R. Mason in Iowa.
This company was acquired in 1912 by Elmer Maytag and was renamed as Maytag-Mason Automobile Company. The Duesenberg brothers moved to Minnesota where they started the Duesenberg Automobile & Motor Company in 1913. The company was sold to Cord in 1937 and was closed in the same year.
The Duesenberg cars had a nickname “Duesy”.
