The word “Corvette” is taken from the Naval World. The term “CORVETTE” originally was used for small, easily maneuverable warships in the 17th and 18th centuries by European Naval Forces. Primarily, these ships were used for patrolling purposes because of their agile, fast and maneuverable design. During the design phase of this remarkable car back in the 1950s, the company was searching for a unique name that reflected the unique properties and features of the iconic car. The name should reflect agility, speed, performance, and maneuverability. During this process, an assistant director, Myron Scott, at General Motors (GM) suggested the name “Corvette” and it was picked for this new sports car.
While exploring the dictionary at home, Scott learned that the word “Corvette” is a representation of an agile and sleek vessel. So, he identified the similarities between the qualities of a naval warship and the desired features of the car being designed. In addition to this, the name “Corvette” was qualified for the criteria of avoiding the bird or animal name. Ultimately, the name “Corvette” was adopted for the car as this name successfully represents the features incorporated into the new sports car design.
The logo features two crossed flags, a Chevrolet bowtie on the right side and a checkered racing flag on the left side. So, we will explain the Corvette Logo Meaning in detail.
The checkered racing flag is a largely known and recognized motorsports flag that represents the end of racing or victory. This flag and the pattern on the flag are closely associated with speed, agility, racing and high performance. So, this flag represents that the car is associated with racing, speed and high performance.
The Bowtie is the iconic logo for the brand “Chevrolet” and represents the brand in the Corvette logo. However, the brand did not reveal any particular meaning of this Bowtie but there are many theories available to interpret the inclusion of Bowtie in the Chevrolet logo. One popular theory conveys that this Bowtie was taken from a wallpaper design that the co-founder of the company, William C, saw in a hotel in France. Reportedly, he tore off the piece of the wallpaper and kept it. Later, he used this design as an integral element of the Chevrolet logo design. Contrarily, another famous theory suggests that this Bowtie is inspired by the flag. This is to pay the tribute to Swiss-born co-founder of the Chevrolet Motor Company, Louis Chevrolet.
Through the successful fusion of checkered racing flag and bowtie, the company emphasizes the performance and company’s brand identity. The Corvette logo represents the legacy of speed, high performance and association with world famous car brand Chevrolet. Since its inception, the logo has become a symbol of the car and secured a position as a recognizable emblem in the car industry.
Production of the iconic Corvette was started back in 1981 in Bowling Green by GM. This production facility remained the exclusive production site for more than three decades. This car is popular across the globe and is well recognized and appreciated as an American Sports Car that manifests the essence of innovation, quality and durability. This production was started right after GM (General Motors) introduced the Corvette as a “Dream Car” in Motoram Show in New York. Later, the production facility was moved to St, Louis. In 1981, the company moved the production facility from St. Louis to Bowling Green, Kentucky.
