Buick is the oldest American automotive manufacturer which is a premium division of General Motors. It was founded by David Dunbar Buick in 1899 as a Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company, producing gasoline engines. And later in 1903, converted to Buick Motor Company.

Meaning:

The three shields in the Buick logo pay tribute to the company founder, David Dunbar Buick’s family, as it resembles the coat of arms of the family. Curved lines within shields symbolize electric and next-generation cars. Some say that black, red and white colors within shields represent the US flag.

In the current logo, three shields are arranged horizontally. Now, there is no circle around shields. There are red, silver and blue swoops within the shields. Under the shield, the brand name is written in a modern typeface.

This logo first appeared on LaCrosse vehicles in 2017. In the new logo, shields got their red, silver, and blue color back. On the right side, the brand name is written in sans-serif black font, with equal spacing between letters.

Shields are simplified as their color changes to white with a Grey metallic outline. Now the first shield’s bottom corner and the third shield’s upper corner are merged with an outside circle. The outside circle has a black gradient and shades of white, giving the whole logo a 3d look.

In 1980, the logo changed to look like a 1959s logo. Hawk was replaced with tri shields monogram. And under that, Buick is written in blue capital letters. Checkered diagonal lines color changed to white.

There is no ring in the logo, and now it looks like a hawk is landing on the Buick wordmark. Buick is in sans-serif white font, which looks good on a red background.

In 1975, Buick started to manufacture Skyhawk compact cars to target the small reliable cars. So, this logo was specifically for Skyhawk cars, with a flying hawk, attached to a ring.

Buick Today logo is similar to this logo designed in 1959. In logo, there are three shields in red, white, and blue color respectively. All the shields are enclosed within a circle. Three shields represented three car models, Electra, Invicta, and LeSabre.

A bold shiny silver frame is added around the shield to give it a more classic look and match with growing automotive industry. On the above part of the shield are ribs like grills, similar to those used on Buick vehicles.

1939 Buick Logo PNG Vector

In 1939, the shield became narrow with a pink-red color. The upper part was in the form of an arch. Now the color of the diagonal line was blue and silver checkered.

1937

1937 Buick Logo PNG Vector

It was the first crest logo of Buick which resembles the coat of arms of the founder family. It was in orange color, with a diagonal line inside the shield, dividing it into two parts. Deer which suggests speed was also in shield on the upper right side and a golden cross on the below left side.

In 1930, the designer removed the square from the logo. The logo was in red color, with a new typeface, with less space between letters. There are no tails of B and the logo has a silver outline. Below the logo, word 8 is written in the same color. Word 8 shows eight-cylinder power of the Buick vehicle engine of that era.

In 1913, the company changed its logo. It is a wordmark logo with an underline. The logo is in a diagonal position, almost 45 degrees, placed on a blue-colored square that has a broad white border.

1911

It is a wordmark logo. The first letter B is enlarged and other letters U, I, C, and K are placed inside it. Two arms of K and curved lines of B share the same lines, giving it an interesting look. 

1905

In 1905, the logo switched from a globe to a badge or emblem. It was made of brass with a thick border and in the border, there was a slogan “The Car of Quality”. The background of the badge was black with the name of the brand on it. The name was in a handwritten typeface. This logo first appeared on Model C in 1905.

The first logo of Buick was designed in 1903. The company used this logo for only two years. The logo consisted of a globe, showing all continents, oceans, parallels and meridian lines. Uncle Sam, which is a historic symbol of the US Government, is walking around the globe with a small car cart. In the center of the globe, the word, KNOWN ALL OVER THE WORLD, was written and on the below side of the globe, THE BUICK MOTOR COMPANY FLINT MICH. U.S.A. was written. It was one of the most interesting logos in the automotive industry.

Company Overview

Buick is an automotive brand known for selling luxury vehicles. It is positioned above the Chevrolet and below the Cadillac. Buick vehicles are sold alongside GMC vehicles at multi-brand dealerships in North America.

General Motors founder, William C. Durant, played an important role in expanding Buick’s production and success. As an investor and general manager of Buick, he incorporated Buick Motors into General Motors in 1908. And ultimately Buick became a division of General Motors.

To save on resources, automotive manufacturers such as Buick, Chevrolet, Oakland, Oldsmobile, and Cadillac, shared a common platform under General Motors. 

World War II era was a difficult era for automotive manufacturers because automobile production stopped in 1942. However, Buick took it as an advantage and produced the M18 Hellcat tank destroyer and supplied radial engines for military aircraft.

After World War II, in 1953, Buick introduced the Buick V8 engine and Roadmaster Skylark to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Buick has always introduced many features before its competitors. In 2012, Buick introduced eAssist technology on the LaCrosse and Regal to manufacture hybrid cars. This technology led to a reduction of 38% in fuel costs. In June 2022, Buick Global Chief Duncan Aldred announced that Buick would transition its entire lineup to electric vehicles by 2030.

Buick 2024 models are the Envista and Encore GX subcompact crossovers, the Envision compact crossover, and the Enclave mid-size crossover in the North American market. It is one of China’s most popular, best-selling automobiles as well. Except for China, it also sells its vehicles in Mexico and Canada.

Buick played an important role in the Apollo program by producing the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV), also known as the “Moon Buggy.” This vehicle was used during the Apollo 15, 16, and 17 missions to explore the lunar surface.
